After Paul goes to Macedonia and Achaia before going to Jerusalem, he goes to Rome. We later read that for the success of the mission, Paul was to go in chains as a prisoner. It was a Holy Spirit strategy in order to reach the highest authorities in the Roman empire with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This chapter picks up following a situation of civil unrest. Church leaders were dragged into public trials, accused of Apostle Paul’s preaching which caused businesses known for manufacturing idols, to lose work, as more people were being born again and no longer worshipping these idols. This was in the peak of a breakthrough, as the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ revolutionized the city and God’s kingdom was advancing – but Satan was trying his best to undermine that.

This was Apostle Paul’s third missionary trip. Holy Spirit appointed Paul to visit the province of Asia he was previously prevented from entering. In this last chapter, we ended with a Jewish believer, an eloquent speaker named Apollos who was preaching about Jesus but only knew about the baptism of John – repentance of sin. After Aquila and Priscilla revealed the full gospel, he began preaching in the synagogue, as Paul did.

In this chapter, Paul leaves Athens for a mission in Corinth. There, Paul’s Holy Spirit led ministry was different than before. He preached the gospel. First Jews then gentiles for about a year. While preaching the gospel, he had a business to support himself – tent making. He co-labored with a family, Aquila and his wife Priscilla who after being born again, also ministered and ran a business with him. When false accusations rose against Paul, God kept his Word that no one would harm him.

In this chapter, Paul and Silas are in Thessalonica at a synagogue where Paul was preaching about Jesus. They were many people there, mainly the Greeks, but many others did not, mainly the Jews. They did their best to make uproar as they envied those who believed in Jesus. We see the difficult circumstances that the Apostles and Disciples had to face for preaching the gospel.

Acts 16 introduces Timothy, the son of a Greek man and a Jewish woman. Paul took Timothy under his wing on mission trips while preaching the Gospel. He was the first gentile minister to do so and later became a church leader. Because of his bicultural identity, Paul had Timothy circumcised. He knew the Jews at the time were not in a position to understand the ministry of God’s grace yet. They interpreted God’s law with their flesh and not through the Holy Spirit. Religion made them miss the Messiah, Jesus Christ, to the point they had Him crucified.

Apostle Paul is back from his first mission trip, and their report was received by the whole church, including the Apostles and elders. Paul was conflicted by the many debates that arose from the church. This is a time where they were ministering to the gentiles who were not familiar with, or practicing Jewish traditions. The Jews held on to this covenant and did not want to depart from the law of Moses or join with the gentiles, even in the church. Find out more in this episode.

Chapter 14 opens up with Paul and Barabbas in a synagogue in Iconium preaching to Jews and gentiles alike. However, they started to face opposition. Some of the Jews plotted against them by spreading lies among the gentiles and even plotted to stone both men. Upon learning about this, they fled to the region of Lycaonia, to the towns of Lystra and Derb while continuing to spread their message. We also dive into Apostle Paul’s ministry here, opposition and persecution and how they responded.

This chapter begins with Apostle Paul, who together with Barabbas and John Mark had just returned to the Antioch Apostolic Center after a finished ministry in Jerusalem. While in prayer, the Apostles were prophetically instructed by Holy Spirit that Barabbas and Paul were to be separated from them, and go where God was sending them, while the others were instructed to continue on their own journey’s. We are beginning our study of Apostle Paul’s mission trips with Holy Spirit.

Chapter 12 tells the story of Herod Agrippa, a Roman leader over the Jewish people, who challenged Holy Spirit by persecuting believers and the consequences of that. Herod Agrippa was the last ruler with the royal title, king of Judea from AD41 to AD44. Although Herod did not practice any type of religion, he was known to be a strict observer of Jewish ceremonies. He was loved by the religious Jews. He was also known for his cruelty towards Christians.
