Our last chapter in our discipleship study through the letters to the churches in the region of Galatians, Paul encourages the believers not to tire to help those who are struggling. In our previous chapter, Paul exposed a false teaching that was leading these particular churches into sin. Paul asks the believers, unaffected by the false teachings and the right track with their relationship with God, to help the believers who were overcome by sin. He instructs them to do this with fruits of love, by being being gentle and humble.

The issue Paul was addressing was the false gospel from some Jewish believers who were preaching that gentiles need to follow the law of circumcision in order to be truly born again - which was taking them away from the freedom in Christ. Throughout the previous chapters, Paul labored by telling these churches why that was a false gospel, teaching them about the origin of the Jewish laws and un the case of this letter to the gentile churches, the ceremonial law of circumcision. He taught them the purpose of these Jewish laws and why they were necessary.

In the previous chapter, Apostle Paul reminded the churches from the region of Galatia that we are made right in God through faith in Christ and not through the flesh or works. In this chapter he goes further, first exposing their deception from what they already knew and what he had already taught them.

In the previous study, we ended with Apostle Paul in his testimony about his zeal to minister the gospel without much of a relationship with the first apostles - except for a brief visit with Peter and James. In this chapter, he continues to say that after 14 years of preaching the gospel, he travelled with Barabbas and Titus to meet with the first Apostles, share what he was preaching and wanting to know if they were in agreement. And, they were. They supported Paul and did not even demand that Titus- a gentile believer who was raised outside of Jewish customaries, should be circumcised - a topic we delve into much more in this chapter.

Today, in our discipleship study, we are looking at Galatians Chapter 1 of Apostle Paul's letters to the churches in the region of Galatia. These were part of the churches Paul started during his first missionary with Barabbas in various cities in this region. In this letter, Apostle Paul expresses his shock to what was happening in the churches in Galatia in reminding them of his testimony, from persecuting followers of The Lord Jesus Christ, to spreading the very same gospel they followed.

In this episode, we will dive into Apostle Paul's first missionary trip to the cities of Galatia as well as the letter sent to the many churches brought up on their journey. A main reason Paul writes this letter to the Galatian churches is that they were succumbing to Jewish false teachings, undermining the central New Testament doctrine of justification by faith, by specifically teaching that gentiles must first become Jewish and submit to all Mosaic Law to become Christian. Paul wrote this letter to counter that teaching and to defend justification by faith alone.
